DURANT, Okla. – Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma Chief Gary Batton issued the following statement after the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) awarded more than $22.8 million in grants to the tribe.

“The grants from the USDA recognize two of the Choctaw Nation’s primary concerns – preserving our culture and preparing our communities for the future,” Batton said. “They also demonstrate the trust the U.S. government has in our tribe to provide the greatest benefit for the people of Oklahoma.”

“Existing Choctaw Nation businesses and activities have demonstrated the potential for growth and economic development in southeast Oklahoma, and these funds will help us further expand opportunity for our members and our neighbors,” Batton said.
