
First American art and artists will be showcased during the annual Hushtola Art Market, Dec. 13-14, conducted for the first time at OKANA Resort & Indoor Waterpark in Oklahoma City. The two-day market is open from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., each day.
The Hushtola (Winter) Art Market offers First American artwork in 20 categories, including painting, photography, mixed media, sculpture, textiles, jewelry, contemporary fashion, basketry, beadwork/quillwork, traditional dress and regalia, weaponry, pottery, and more.
Hosted by the Chickasaw Nation, artists from several federally recognized First American tribes representing nine states will participate in the competition and show.
A few artists expected to attend include Chickasaw artists Jeni Presley, Faithlyn Seawright, Regina Free and Billy Hensley. Caddo artist Chase Earles, Navajo artist JJ Otero and Cherokee/Otoe-Missouria artist Tom Farris, among many others, are also expected to attend.
“We are excited to welcome many esteemed First American artists to the Hushtola Art Market, and we are thrilled to host the art market at the renowned OKANA Resort,” Mark Milligan, Chickasaw Nation Performing and Visual Arts Executive Officer, said. “Art collectors and patrons will discover a great selection of unique art created by renown First American artists during this holiday event.”
Hushtola Art Market is open to the public at no charge.
