
TULSA, Okla. — Celebrate Family History Month with engaging workshops this July from Tulsa City-County Library!
The Genealogy Resource Center, located in Hardesty Regional Library, 8316 E. 93rd St., will offer seven free programs covering topics such as finding African American ancestors before 1870, using library resources for research and genetic genealogical research.
A Genealogy Detectives activity kit containing genealogy worksheets, clue cards and goodies will be available at Hardesty Regional Library for children, teens and tweens while supplies last. Family History Month programs include:
- Introduction to Ancestry Library Edition on Wednesday, July 1 from 2-3:30 p.m. at Hardesty Regional Library. Discover your roots with Ancestry Library Edition. Learn genealogy basics and get practical tips for your family history research. Registration is required. For teens and adults.
- AI and Genealogy on Wednesday, July 8 from 2-3:30 p.m. at Schusterman-Benson Library, 3333 E. 32nd Place. Artificial intelligence is changing genealogy research. Learn how AI tools can help analyze records, read handwriting and organize research — while understanding its limitations and ethical use. Registration is required. For adults.
- Dinosaur Family Fingerprints on Saturday, July 11 from 10-11 a.m. at Hardesty Regional Library. Dig into your family history and work together to create a family fingerprint keepsake craft to treasure forever! For all ages.
- Genealogy Workshop With Juli Bulleigh on Saturday, July 11 from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. at Hardesty Regional Library. Juli Bulleigh will offer two engaging presentations: "Putting the History Back in Family History" and "Hidden Clues in U.S. Census Records." Registration is required. For teens and adults.
- Unearth Your Past: Exploring Ancestry Library Edition on Wednesday, July 15 from 11 a.m.-noon at Pratt Library, 3219 S. 113th W. Ave., Sand Springs. Ready to uncover your family roots? Bring what you know about yourself and your family and get ready to dig into history! For adults.
- Genealogy and DNA Workshop With Kate Penney Howard on Saturday, July 18 from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. at Hardesty Regional Library. Join professional genealogist Kate Penney Howard for two presentations on using DNA for genetic genealogy research. Learn how to apply these techniques in your own genealogical research. Registration is required. For adults.
- Finding African American Ancestors Before 1870 on Saturday, July 25 from 2-3:30 p.m. at Suburban Acres Library, 4606 N. Garrison Ave. Use Freedmen’s Bureau records, probate records and more to trace ancestors pre-1870. Registration is required. For adults.
